How much the Cilento National Park has to offer in terms of tourism, becomes clear when visiting the medieval village of Rocca Cilento.

Although well-known places such as Castellabate and Agropoli are not far off, most travelers to the Cilento do not, in general, stray into this beautiful mountain landscape with a view of the Alento reservoir.

Slow down
in medieval alleys

But – what we may reveal – it is really worth it! And it is so in many respects.

There’s this pleasant peace and quiet which pervades the village. At Rocca Cilento, slowing down and unwinding is more than just a phrase. The narrow and partly steep alleys are neither overcrowded nor exposed to southern Italian traffic chaos.

You can stroll at a very leisurely pace through the village up to the impressive castle and pause every now and then to enjoy and take in the picturesque panorama in all directions.

The Castle
Il Castello di Rocca Cilento

The impressive castle complex at the highest point of the village is something visitors will probably hardly expect in this place, unless they have read or heard about it before.

It is the landmark of Rocca and more famous around the world than you might think. We were really amazed.

Today, the 12th century fortress is a truly luxurious place, which welcomes and accommodates guests from all over the world.

The Castello also houses, amongst others, the Bistrot dei Sanseverino and a Sunset Bar with a breathtaking sea view terrace. With a reservation (in advance!), external guests too are therefore able to gain access to the castle.

Information about and impressions of Castello di Rocca Cilento are found
here.

The e-mail address and the phone number are also found on the castle’s homepage, in case you want to make a table reservation (or book for a celebration) on site.

Hiking
and enjoying nature

Rocca Cilento is surrounded by a pleasant and soothing green mountain panorama – a perfect place also for hikes and shorter walks. One trail, for example, takes you to the neighboring village of Lustra and further on to the Valley of the Mills (Valle dei Mulini).

The nearby recreation area Oasi Fiume Alento (often also called Diga Alento) is a great tip, especially for families with children and cyclists.

The area around Rocca Cilento is interesting also from a culinary point of view. In recent years, numerous young winegrowers have settled there. Their cantine have meanwhile become firmly established inside and outside the Cilento region and often also offer tastings on site.
